A Ridiculous charge

VANCOUVER - Vancouver Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi has been charged with assault causing bodily harm...

*sigh.* Whatever. This is the stupidest thing I have heard since the McSorley incident. What the crap are they going to do? Arrest him? Make him perform community service? Put him in jail??? I'll be the first to admit that Bertuzzi is most certainly guilty of "assault causing bodily harm". However, five hundred other NHL players are in the same boat. Think I'm exaggerating? Why don't we ask Martin St. Louis if Andrew Ference caused him any bodily harm during his "assault" in the third period of game seven. Or better yet, Ask Sami Kapanen how much harm was done to his bodily functions when Tucker laid the smack down on his candy-ass.

The fact is, "assault causing bodily harm" is an extremely important part of the game, and one I whole-heartedly condone. A fist to the head from behind is a dishonorable, dispicable, and downright dastardly deed, but it is no worse than a slash on the arm, or a stick to the chops (I saw plenty of both this past year). Call him a coward for the sucker-punch, and send out Peter Worrell (or another tough guy) to settle the score. But don't, and I mean DO NOT, charge the guy with something that every player is guilty of. And don't single the guy out as though he did something uniquely horrible. How stupid.

Next they'll want to take fighting out of the game...
