Capital Gains?

This strikes me as interesting for a couple of reasons:
The Ottawa Senators are making a pitch for Detroit Red Wings goaltender Dominik Hasek and Senators general manager John Muckler is in serious talks with his agent, Rich Winter, according to a report in the Calgary Sun.

The Sens are looking to make a big splash after firing Jacques Martin. They have been arguably the best regular season team over the last five or six years, but have never made any real noise in the playoffs (not to mention losing to the hated Leafs on multiple occasions). I cannot see Hasek going to Ottawa at this point. There are just too many unknowns with all the collective bargaining shunt still left to resolve. Lets remember... this is the same franchise that was out of dough not a year and a half ago. Even if Hasek did sign with Ottawa (presumably for less than he makes now), I don't think he is the answer. What Ottawa needs (as well as the rest of Canadian teams, except Calgary) is a superstar-type, game-breaking, Canadian Captain. Koivu, Sundin, Alfredson, and Naslund are all excellent players, but they just don't have it. It sucks to say, because I want desperately for the Canucks to do well, but I just don't ever see Gary Bettman ever handing the cup to either of the aforementioned four. I could actually envision him handing the cup to Iggy, and maybe even Ryan Smyth in Edmonton (but they need to play a full season to make the playoffs, not just two months). What do Andreychuk, Sakic, Stevens, and Yzerman all have in common? You guessed it! And before anyone points out Modano to me, all I have to say is the guy was born in Michegan, and played hockey in Minnesota... that's practically Canada anyways.
